Elam, Doris Gibbs - Doris “Perk” Gibbs Elam, 88, of Hot Springs, passed away July 31, 2012, surrounded by her family. Born July 29, 1924, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, she was the daughter of Clara and Ira R. Gibbs.
An active member of First Presbyterian Church for most of her life, “Perk” loved her circle, working the Bargain Box, and served as a church deacon. A charter member of Forum Club, she loved playing bridge, telling and hearing funny jokes. She retired from Worthen Bank where she worked in the installment loan department and was a branch assistant manager. She loved her family and possessed a wonderful sense of humor.
Doris was preceded in death by the love of her life, husband Martin H. Elam, her parents, Clara and Ira Gibbs, brothers, John Gibbs, Jimmy Gibbs, Fred Gibbs, Bill Gibbs and sisters, Sally Ramoly, Idell Brooks and Janece Watts.
She is survived by two daughters, Marty Elam Walker, of Hot Springs and Janis Elam Dixon, of Benton; one sister, Nadine Lotz, of Hot Springs; seven married grandchildren, Traci (Michael) Hogue, of Little Rock; Chris (Laura) Walker, of Bryant; Jayme (Jennifer) Dixon, Danny (Mia) Dixon, Aaron(Kelly) Dixon, Dr. Jared (Emberlee) Dixon and Joseph (Melanie) Dixon, all of Benton; and 22 great-grandchildren as well as dozens of nieces and nephews who called her
"Aunt Perkie."
The family expresses its deepest gratitude to Lakewood Nursing Home, where she resided for the last 15 years of her life, and its outstanding staff, as well as to Arkansas Hospice for their sensitive and caring efforts on Doris’ behalf.
Pallbearers will be her six grandsons, Jayme, Danny, Aaron, Jared and Joseph Dixon and Chris Walker.

a.m. Saturday, August 4, 2012, at the funeral home with Rev. Lacy Sellers officiating.
Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Hot Springs.

Ellis, Emma Sue Smith - Emma Sue Smith Ellis, age 71, of Little Rock, died Wednesday, April 7, 2004.
She was born in Plainview, Arkansas, later graduating from Hot Springs High School before receiving her degree in Education from Henderson State University. She taught elementary level school in Fayetteville, Arkansas, for several years where she was also very active in community affairs and in her church, Central United Methodist Church. Moving to Little Rock in 1974, Emma Sue worked for Union National Bank for 12 years as a Union Securities Officer. She was member of P.E.O. and St. James United Methodist Church. Emma was considered a people person and never met a stranger.
She is survived by one daughter, Gail O'Donnell and husband John of Little Rock; one son, Drew Davis and wife Susan of Fayetteville; one brother, B. J. Smith and wife Jo Ann of Hot Springs; and six grandchildren, Jenny, Parker and John Michael Davis; and Emma, Elizabeth and Katie O'Donnell.
There will be a funeral service today at 11 a.m. at Ruebel Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Chaplain Kathy Kaczmarck.
Burial will follow at Pinecrest Cemetery.

Ellis, Leonard Richard III - Leonard Richard Ellis III, age 67, of Hot Springs died at home Monday, December 31, 2007, after a lengthy illness.
He was born October 7, 1940, to Leonard and Jeanne Ellis in Hot Springs. He was co-owner of L. R. Ellis Properties, Inc. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a former Elder of Canyon Creek Presbyterian Church in Richardson, Texas.
He had extensive experience in the field of human resources, having had a position of vice president of the Associates Corporation of Dallas, Texas. In addition, Mr. Ellis had held other senior personnel positions with Arkla Gas Company in Shreveport, Louisiana, and Leader Federal Savings in Memphis, Tennessee. He moved from Dallas to Hot Springs and joined his brother as partner in Ellis Title Insurance Co., Inc. Shortly after that, they purchased Arkansas Abstract and Guaranty Title Insurance Co., Inc. He founded Gardenview Realty and Development Company, which developed Weston Estates.
He graduated from Hot Springs High School and attended Hendrix College and the University of Arkansas where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Henderson State University.
He was a lifetime member of the Elks Club, a past member of the Downtown Rotary Club, past vice president of the Arkansas Land and Title Association. He was a member of the Hot Springs Golf and Country Club. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and former member of the Society of Human Resources Management. He was an avid Razorback fan and a contributor to the Razorback Foundation and also enjoyed coaching Little League football.
He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Lance Ellis, and stepson Bill Burgess. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Ellis, and one son, Leonard Richard Ellis IV and his wife, Susan of St. Paul Minnesota; three daughters, Kathryn Goy Roberts and husband Shawn
of Bryant, Stephanie Curtis and husband Darin of Keller, Texas, and Elizabeth Ellis of Memphis, Tennessee; two stepdaughters, Sharlana Burgess and husband Matt Loney of New York City and Susan Bean and husband Grady of Hot Springs; daughter-in-law Deena Burgess; his grandchildren, Patrick and Aaron Cheshier, Hannah and Victoria Goy, Samuel and Lillian Ellis, Susan Curtis, Caroline and Emily Loyd, Ashlee and William Burgess and Madeleine Loney; one brother, Michael R. Ellis and wife, Connee; two sisters, Susan Goodrum and husband Bud, LaVinia Webb and husband Dr. Tim; one uncle Frank Pamplin and Marie; and cousins, Ellis Cokes and wife Terry, Laney Jackson and husband Michael, and frank Pamplin, Jr., and wife Jeanne.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, January 3, 2008, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Bud Reeves officiating.
Honorary pallbearers are Mike Bush, Harry Metcalf, Laurence Adkins, Gerald Grimes, Sherrod and Fred Thompson, Terry Smith and Bob Mathis; special friend and employee, Shelia Tree.
