MRS. J. D. WELCH Funeral services for Mrs. J. D. Welch, 56, of Sapulpa, OK will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the First Baptist Church of Sapulpa. Mrs. Welch died at 2:30 p.m. Monday following a long illness. Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Pat McDaniel of Sapulpa; two sisters, Mrs. L. C. Clark of El Dorado and Mrs. Sue Cales of Tulsa, Okla.; three brothers, Stark Newman and Roy Newman, both of Star City, and Herbert Newman of Searcy; and one grandchild. The services will be under the direction of the Smith Funeral Home of Sapulpa. Note: Mrs. J. D. Welch was Effie Harriett Newman, born November 5, 1905 in Lincoln County, Star City, AR to Joseph Floyd Newman and Virgie (Spears) Newman. Effie was raised in or around Feenyville. Her birth certificate is a "DELAYED BIRTH CERTIFICATE" which she obtained in 1954. I remember us going down to Feenyville and she got my great uncle, George A. Newman, and another lady, Vida Petty, to come up with when she was born. The date of the birth certificate is September 24, 1905, because So-So's old cow gave birth to her calf at that time. (Isn't this hilarious? They could remember when the calf was born, but not the child!!!) Also, the name is shown as Effie Hanline Newman not Effie Harriett Newman. (And we wonder why we can't find our ancestors!) Effie attended school at Feenyville and also at Star City. Submitted by: Diann McDaniel
