On 24 April 1877 he married Ann Green at the Registry Office, Rotherham. He was aged 22 and a miner. Ann was aged 21. They were of Swinton. George died on 29 November 1917 and was buried on 3 December in Swinton . He was resident at 8 Station Street and was aged 63. (APR + GRO ref Rotherham 9c 785 Dec 1917 - [aged] 63)

His death was announced in the Sheffield Evening Standard on Saturday 1 December 1917: “ARDRON. – On November 29th, at 8, Station Street, Swinton. George Ardron, the beloved husband of Ann Ardron. Friends please accept this, the only intimation.” (Sheffield Evening Standard, Saturday, 1 December 1917)

A week later the South Yorkshire Times and Mexborough & Swinton reported George’s funeral:

He is buried at the Parish church of Swinton:

She was born in 1856 at Wentworth, the daughter of William Green, an agricultural labourer. (Based on marriage cert + age and place on 1881 Census) GRO REF??

She was buried at the Parish Church of Swinton on 6 February. Ann was of 2 Station Street. Her monumental inscription (from her husband's) reads "Also of the above named Ann Ardron who died Feb 3rd 1929 aged 72 years." (MI + APR)

Her death was reported in the local newspaper a few days later on 8 February 1929:
ARDRON.– The funeral of Mrs. Ann Ardron, aged 72, who died at the residence of her daughter (Station Hotel, Swinton) on Sunday, took place on Wednesday, the Vicar officiating. Mrs. Ardron was born at Piccadilly, and her life-long residence in the parish made her widely known and respected. There were many mourners, including Mrs. Batty, Mr. and Mrs. E. Ardron, Mr. and Mrs. F. Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. C. Gamewell, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Ardron, Mr. and Mrs. A Ardron (sons and daughters), Mr. and Mrs. Musgrave (sister), Mr. and Mrs. B. Green, Mr. and Mrs. H. Green (brothers), Mrs G. Batty, Mrs. Clarke. The bearers were grandsons. Wreaths were from the family and neighbours. Mr. C. T. Butterfield was the undertaker.

WEDDING AT ST. MARGARET’S CHURCH, SWINTON.

BATTYE–ARDRON.

On Monday, the 4th inst., at the Congregational; Church, Swinton, a marriage was celebrated between Miss Lucy Ardron and Mr. Charles Gascoigne Battye. The bride looked very neatly attired in a slate-coloured dress, trimmed with white silk and toque to match. The bridesmaids, four in number, were Miss Sarah Ardron (sister of the bride), Miss Whitehead, and two little girls, Elsie Battye and Alice Ardron. Miss Ardron’s dress was of fawn with a hat to match. Miss Whitehead wore a black skirt and pink blouse, with black picture hat, and the two little maidens each looked smart in creams. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. George Lang, and the bridegroom being a member at this church, a very large number were present. The bride was given away by her father, and Mr. Tom Gascoigne was best man. The bridal party then adjourned to the home of the bride, where a reception was afterwards held at which about 40 guests were invited, the following being present:- Mr. and Mrs. Ardron, Mr. Edward Ardron, Miss Ardron, Mr. George Ardron, Miss Alice Ardron, Mr. J. On the 1911 Census (2 April) she was aged 29, living with her parents at 8 Station Street, Swinton. She is shown as being a widow and being referred to as Sarah Ardron, by her father who filled in the census return. (PRO ref RG14 ??)

He was born in 1879, the son of Benjamin Smith. (Based on marriage cert)

Benjamin would seem to have died before 2 April 1911, the date of the Census which shows his wife Sarah as a widow, reverting back to being referred to as Sarah Ardron, by her father who filled in the census return. (1911 Census)

George died at 5am on 15 December 1908 at 131 Barrhill Rows, Kirkintilloch, Scotland. He was single and a coal miner. The informant was his father, normally of 8 Station Street, Swinton. His death was registered in Kirkintilloch, Dumbartonshire on the outskirts of Glasgow the same day.  (Register index - Scotland) CAUSE OF DEATH?
