Essex Cemetery

Limestone, Newton County, Arkansas

"GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN"

Walked and transcribed April 12, 2003, typed up and submitted Sept 2004, by Rosa Cline

COMPLETE TRANSCRIPTION

(These directions aren't "perfect" like we try and get them, but the basics is here and if you follow them shouldn't have problems finding Essex Cemetery.) Driving directions this cemetery From Highway 16 turn off on Newton County Rd 316, located between Nail and Deer, there is a sign at the highway that says Limestone. Follow this county road (It is a dirt/gravel road and so going around and down the mountain is kind of ruff....) you will see Bethel Clayborn cemetery on your left, then shortly thereafter you will see a cattle gate on the right leading to Curtis and then on down the same road you'll see Ogden on the left, right after that there will be a road turning off to the left and when we transcribed this there was a sign pointing to Essex, You'll follow this ruff road looks like into a stream/river with a house facing you. Continue on over the stream and the road will curve infront of this house and you'll see the cemetery out in a field. You will have to open a cattle gate to get access to it.

We are trying to collect obits for as many people as we can, so if anyone sees their families here we would like to hear from you. Especially if you have anything to add to this information. Or if you see we have it noted that we have an obit that you would like for us to share. We have also taken headstone pictures of all the stones in this cemetery, just e-mail us and we'll be happy to do what we can to share with you.

There were stones here that were hard to read, and stones that had been broken, but we've tried our best to transcribe as best as we could. Anything below the transcription in ( ) is stuff we know about the person mentioned and if it is in ( ) that stuff isn't on the stone. So use only as a guideline in your own research unless a family contact is beside it. As we have no way of making sure the data is 100% correct.

I'm making a list at first of everyone there and under this list is the actual sayings & dates from the stones. I am making a list alphabetically before the actual transcriptions so it might make it easier to find someone you're looking for. Then below the list is the transcriptions. This cemetery I typed up as they are in the cemetery. This cemetery is kind of set up differently than others, as the sign is at the side of the cemetery, So we started at the corner farthest away from the entrance gate and so if you would like to visit the cemetery you can kind of rely upon how they are typed up below as to where they will be found at the cemetery. The first ones listed (under the alphabetical order) will be the farthest away from the sign, the ones on the end of this transcriptions will be the ones you'll first see when you enter the gates. This also lets you know who is buried beside whom, etc. Enjoy,.....

If anyone has any obits or know anything about any of these people feel free to e-mail us at clinefam@ritternet.com We are trying to make these people as "real" as possible so even though they lived 100 or more years ago they truly will be "gone but not forgotten".
