Has anyone surveyed the HARRIS Cemetery? I visited this small family cemetery with my father,
Carter Bartly Strickland, several years ago, where he showed me his cousin's grave. The cemetery was on a flat of a hill near Walter Wilkerson's place. We took a road in front of Pat Wilkerson's place - west. I am not even sure whether it was in Walker or Fayette Co., AL, but I think it was in Kansas, Walker County. The graves were:

The Rev. T. M. Harris
September 29, 1833
September 26, 1902

Adeline Harris (w/o of the Rev. T. M. Harris)
June 14, 1849
April 1922

Celia E. Harris (Celia Emaline Aldridge, s/o Parks Minard Harris)
September 2, 1896
March 29, 1925

Note: Celia Emanline Aldridge was a daughter of James Willis Aldridge and Frances Elizabeth Strickland. She died in childbirth with the birth of her daughter, Edna Elmmaline Harris, who was adopted by Griffith Houston Johnson, her mother's second cousin.

I think I recall that there was a child of Celia's buried there:

Royce Harris
February 27, 1920
January 7, 1922

There were no more graves than those four.

Parks Minard Harris, remarried and is buried with second wife somewhere else. He had other children by first wife, Celia; e.i., Albert, Lorene, and Cleburn Harris; but I have no further information on them or where they were buried.

I'm Looking for a Mourning Stewart. She may have been married to someone
else before marriage to my GG Grandfather William Barefield. On her
tombstone in Pontotoc County, MS, it states Mourning Stewart Barefield, so
she was either a Stewart by a previous marriage, or this is her Maiden name.
She was born 05-31-1826 in Georgia and died in Pontotoc, MS. Her husband
William Barefield was born 02-10-1815 in Hancock County GA. Any help on
Mourning would be appreciated

September Queries:

Wonder if anyone on the list has any info on William A. Goad and Martha J. Burkett who married in Walker County 27 APR 1879; were listed on the 1880 census with William as age 20 and Martha age 24. Then I cant find them again until 1910 when I find Martha, supposedly married 3 times and still a Goad. She appears to be farming the same farm they were on in 1880.
William is a brother to my great grandmother Elsie Goad Tidwell, and a son of William A. Goad and Elizabeth Jackson. Elizabeth was widowed before 1870 and then she married Wm C Romine before 1880. Other siblings were Adelaide(or Adeline?), David and Richard.
Thanx

My great grandparents were married in 1914 in (Nauvoo) Walker, AL. My great grandfather was Robert Leroy Garrett born 18 April 1891 and died 1 Feb 1956. My great grandmother was Alice Beasley born 30 May 1894 and died 11 March 1976. They were buried at the Old Bethel Graveyard. I know nothing of their lives together except for the births of their four daughters. I would be very interested also in knowing about the Beasley side of the family. Are there any relatives out there who can update me. THANK YOU!!!

This past weekend, P J Gossett interviewed several people from around Natural Bridge on the history of the "ghost" town Glen Mary.  It was located about 3 miles north of Natural Bridge in Winston County.   (Here are notes from him)....

You can go to: http://wcgs.ala.nu and click on the "Towns & Communities" link.  When that page comes up, click on "Glen Mary."  If you have any stories pertaining to this town, please let me know so I can include it.  Secondly, on the Towns & Communities page, you will see a whole bunch of other small communities.  If you know of anything about these places, please e-mail it to me.  I think it would be nice to start a short history on all these places.

One more thing.  If you wish to keep receiving updates from me (at various times) on the website, please subscribe to the Winston County Mailing List.  That's where I will be directing the messages.  If you are not on the list, send an e-mail to [email protected] with the single word subscribe in the message subject and body.  Once you do this, you can send out messages to everyone by sending your message to [email protected].

Thanks,

DAVIDSON BLACKWELL & SOPHIA HENRY and JAMES  MADISON ABSOLOM DAVIS & NANCY HENRY

DAVIDSON BLACKWELL and SOPHIA HENRY were married in Carroll Co., GA on 29 May 1832.  He was born 7 Oct 1809; Elbert Co., GA, d. 22 Jun 1887, Walker Co., AL, mother named, NANCY, father uncertain; but, born in NC.  The family might have moved and lived in SC before moving to Georgia.

A lead on the parents of SOPHIA HENRY, who was born 1807; d. 29 Mar 1880, Walker Co., AL.
She is believed by some to be the daughter of JAMES ALEXANDER HENRY and SOPHIA REAGAN, who were married on 23 Jun 1793 in Rockingham Co., NC, according to one source.  I am trying to find out the original source of this information.

JAMES ALEXANDER HENRY was shown as ALEXANDER HENRY on the 1820 US Census in Elbert Co., GA, page 170; and died before the 1830 US Census.

The 1820 US Census in that County also showned:

JOHN HENRY, page 169  (married 25 Jan 1818 to POLLY SKINNER
WILLIAM HENRY, page 169 (married 20 Mar 1817 5o CUCIE SKINNER
CHARLES HENRY, page 176
BENJAMIN HENRY, page 187

The 1830 census shows the following HENRY heads of household in Elbert Co., GA.

WILLIAM HENRY                30-40
ALEXANDER HENRY (JR.)  20-30
DANIEL N. HENRY
SARAH HENRY

There were records showing WILLIAM HENRY was in and out of Carroll Co., GA, where SOPHIA married.

Source of her parents had provided the addition of SOPHIA as a child of JAMES ALEXANDER HENRY and SOPHIA REAGAN to an acquaintance of mine in Huntsville, who was descended from SOPHIA's sister, NANCY HENRY, who had married about 1819 to JAMES MADISON ABSOLOM DAVIS (b. 1796-1798).

Was he the JAMES DAVIS on the 1850 census in Walker Co., AL in District 12?
