Gates, George, who was born Jan. 16, 1782, raised in South Carolina; removed to Camden Co., Ga. in 1802. Married Rachel A. Elliot, Jul. 21, 1808, removed to Madison County, Ala. in 1814, thence to Tuskaloosa Co. Jan. 1818 where he died Dec. 11, 1841. Leaving the wife of his youth and partner of his toils through life, to mourn his departure; he was a plain honest retiring citizen, respected by all who knew him, Erected by his wife Rachel A.
