Phillip Hamman Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution

History of Phillip Hamman Chapter
The Phillip Hamman Chapter was organized on December 13, 1978, in Fort Payne as the 81st chapter in Alabama with 28 members. The Organizing Regent was Lucile Price Webb (Mrs. James A.), a descendent of Phillip Hamman. Ann Briglia (Mrs. Arnold E. ) was serving as the State Organizing Secretary and Elizabeth R. Patton (Mrs. David V.) was the State Regent. The present membership is 42, with two Associate members.

The chapter name was chosen to fulfill the dream of Lucile Webb, who, when admitted to NSDAR in 1938, established the line of her ancestor, Phillip Hamman. Phillip arrived in America from Germany on 16 October 1772, debarking from the ship Crawford. He settled in the Greenbrier Valley of Virginia. Phillip served with Capt. John Lewis's company at the Battle of Point Pleasant on October 10, 1774. In the spring of 1776 he joined the 12th VA Regiment and served for two and a half years. He became famous in history as an Indian Scout. Phillip and his wife, Christina, died in Jackson County, AL.
