"Here is a story my Grandfather (Joseph Lolley) told about his Father.and my mother's grandfather who was Henry Lolley born in 1859 in Shelby county Alabama,He said he run away from home at about 12 years of age and walked all the way behind the wagons that was passing pulled by oxen that was going north from Shelby County to Marion County Alabama in the year of 1870.They were on the way for several weeks for there was no roads part of the way and the men had to cut and make one as they went.He said he killed birds for his food.Cold weather came upon them about where Hackleburg is now and he was bare foot and very cold so he went to a house and ask if he could come in and warm.The folks there were very concerned about him.Put him by the fire and fixed him some real food.I am not sure who the good people were but I think they were Defoors,Could have been Andrew and Rachel,Henry lived on with them for and other families (Cole's)that needed an extra farm hand until he married America Cole,I understand he never went back to Shelby County,Why I don't know)Henry died 1913.So I imagination this is the way he looked coming to Marion County Alabama.And I painted it."
