Natchez Trace Genealogical Society!

The Natchez Trace Genealogy Society was founded November 11, 1979 with 1980 considered the founding year.  Our purpose is to unite those persons interested in the pursuit and study of genealogy and family history, to encourage the preservation of records, to promote programs of education which further growth and development in these fields, and to publish genealogical literature related to the vicinity of Northwest Alabama.  Membership in the society is open to all persons having an active interest in genealogy and family history.

Dues are $20. annually (additional members of a family living in the same household may join for an additional $3) and the membership year is January 1 - December 31.

We cover a thirteen county area surrounding and containing the Northwest corner of North Alabama.  The counties include Colbert, Franklin, and Lauderdale in Alabama making up the "core" counties and all the adjoining counties of Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee making up the balance of the thirteen counties.  All thirteen are shown in our masthead.  Our name, "Natchez Trace", is derived from the  Indian Trail of the same name that passes through our area.  For many years it was a major transportation route and still continues to be an important route to this day.

We co-sponser genealogy classes at the University of North Alabama in Florence through their office of continuing education.   We also sponsor genealogy seminars in the Shoals area.

We meet quarterly in the shoals area to discuss topics related to genealogy.  Typically our meetings are the 2nd Sunday of the 2nd Month of each quarter (February, May, August, and November).

Our mail address is:  NTGS, P.O. Box 420, Florence, AL 35631
