If you have additional information you can add about this regiment or the men who fought in it, please let me know.

Hugh Ellis Courtney was my grandfather.  He was born February 13, 1843 in Mississippi.  He enlisted March 15, 1861 at Pineville, Alabama, was captured on May 5, 1864 at the Battle of the Wilderness.  He was sent to Elmira, New York held as a prisoner of war until he took the Oath of Allegiance on June 14, 1865.  He died in Montgomery on February 22, 1939 and is buried in the Pine Crest Cemetery in Mobile.  John Ellis Courtney of the 36th Alabama was his father.
