Lauderdale County, Alabama has had three courthouses. The first was deliberately
demolished and the second was built on the same site. This was the southwest
corner of Court and Tennessee Streets. The third was erected one block south,
and faces Court Street. The cornerstone of the third courthouse was laid on 27 Feb 1965.
There has never been a fire that resulted in loss of records in this courthouse.

L. Huddleston Archives and Special Collections

The archives of this library are now open when the school is open, but the hours are not as long as those of the main library. The archives have been moved to the second floor, and have a very nice place to work. Their microfilm collection of newspapers and census records are in the main library and are available at any time it is open.
