Wates-Shaw Cemetery

LAUDERDALE COUNTY, ALABAMA
CEMETERIES - TOWNSHIP 1, RANGE 16

WATES - SHAW

Surveyed in 1970
by Mrs. Janet Curtis
per the late
William Q. Hill

Location: From Florence, take the Waterloo road and go to Waterloo, then take
the Pea Ridge Road for about seven miles, turn left at the first paved cross roads.
Go for about three miles until the road comes to a "T", turn left and go almost
to the water's edge. The cemetery is on the left side of the road.

This cemetery was copied by Dr. Janet Curtis, her son, Kipp, of Alburquerque, NM
and Mr. Oliver Qualls of Savannah, Tennessee in 1970. This is what Mrs. Curtis
had to say; "There are probably as many unmarked graves as marked, or more.
The cemetery covers a fair size area, but the stone are widely scattered. Am sure
this cemetery has seen better days."
