BURTWELL – BEDFORD CEMETERY

            This cemetery is located off Helton Drive in Florence, Al. Go through the Helton Drive/Cox Creek Parkway intersection; proceed approx. ½ mile, then turn left. The cemetery is located at 3505 Helton Drive, Hilltop Kennels, owned by Mr. Lawrence Alexander, who lives on the property, so permission should be obtained from Mr. Alexander before visiting the cemetery.
            This cemetery contains 9 marked graves, and approximately 15 unmarked graves.
            It is located on the site of the old Dr. John Bedford plantation, New Hope, and contains graves of members of the Bedford, Burtwell and Falconet families. There are perhaps also some slaves buried in some of the unmarked gravesites. One of Mr. Alexander’s dogs is also buried here.
