Searching for the marriage date of Willie Austin Pendley & Margie Pendley.  Listed in the Fayette County, Alabama Marriage Records, 1850-1970 (pg 169).  Indexed to Book H, pg 334, of the actual marriage records.  The date would have been in the latter part of 1941 or Jan/Feb 1942.  Any information (parents, location, etc.) associated with this marriage record would be greatly appreciated.

STROTHER • GRIFFIN

Peggy Strother  Thu, 21 Jan 1999
George W. Strother born about 1814 in S.C., married Sarah Griffin in Tuscalooca Co., AL, 28 Aug 1839.  They lived in Fayette Co. the rest of their lives.  They were on the 1850, 1860, 1870, and 1880 Census.  He liked to be called Wash. or Washington.  He died Aug 1897 at the home of his daughter Martha (Mrs. J. A.) Jenkins.  I found the info of his death in the book 150 YESTERYEARS on page 44.  It was a newspaper article from the Sentinel Aug. 6, 1887.  They had at least 12 children.  [email protected]

know until today.  His name was William Thomas Pendley.  Born on 9-1-1872 and died on 6-1-1921.  He was married to Lilie Nadell Banks.  They married in 1899, but I do not know where.

Are you in Alabama?  I am in central Georgia.  Hoping to hear from you.  Ann Pendley Moore

BROWN • WEST

[email protected]  Fri, 22 Jan 1999
George D. Brown is on the 1850 Fayette Co. census age 45, wagon maker; wife Eliza; sons Eranmus, Samuel, daughter Laura.  He died late 1855 or early 1856.  He had 320 acres of land in Fayette and it took form 1856 until 1867 to settle the estate.  Eliza married a man name West; Eranmus moved to Mississippi; I think Samuel ran away at age 14; do not know about Laura.  George also did business in Lowends co. Miss.  Does anyone have information on this family?

McCOY

Emma  Sun, 24 Jan 1999
I am looking up McCoy's before the year of 1855.  My great great grandfather was Robert McCoy, born in 1835.  I can't find anything on his parents.  I did find a Robert McCoy, age 12, with parents being John McCoy, 64, and Mary, 45, in the Al. census.  But nothing after that.  I have information on him being married to Louisa from Al. in 1855.  Their children are Sylvester, Nancy Evelyn, Van, James Erwin, Naomi, Lorenzo, Amanda Catherine and Jerry.  I would very much like any information you may have.  Thanks .

SNIDER • SHIRLEY (SHERLEY)

[email protected]  Mon, 25 Jan 1999
Ebb and Malissia Snider were married around the turn of the century, 1898-1900.  They are my great grand parents.  Supposedly they are both buried in Berry (do not know which church).  Their children were Sarah Josephine, Richmond, Lettie, Maudie and Howard.  Malissa had a sister named Minnie Shirley (Sherley).  My grandmother always said her mother died Dec 24, 1914, at 32 when my grandmother was six.  I have found them in the 1900 and 1910 census for Tuscaloosa but it is my understanding that at least Malissia was from Berry.  Any help is appreciated.

BOUCHER (BUTCHER)

Gwen Boucher
Fri, 29 Jan 1999
Thomas BOUCHER, aka Butcher, is believed to have been my husband's ggg grandfather, but no real proof has been found.  He came to Alabama from Tennessee around 1819, acquiring land in Dallas County.  In 1827 he bought land in Fayette Co. and, according to one source, died in 1830.  Court house fires seem to plague all the counties where these Bouchers have lived, making research very frustrating.  Is there anyone out there who has any knowledge of this line?

I am sending some additions for the file, "Adult People Living in Fayette County (Alabama) Prior to the Civil War" [now Soldiers, Statesmen & Scalawags].  These people are all my ancestors, so I know the material to be factual.  I sent a hard-copy of this to the library to be forwarded on to you, but it must have fallen by the wayside somewhere along the line.

SANDERS, George Harrison - b. 1845 in Fayette County, Alabama.  Son of James J. and Rosa Sanders.  He joined Co. G, 41st Alabama Infantry, CSA, in Tuscaloosa, AL, at the age of 16, and served two years, taking the place of one of his brothers (who was needed at home, but who had to serve later, anyway).  He then reinlisted in 1863, as a Private in Co. B, 8th Alabama Cavalry, commanded by General Ball.  He also served under General Joe Wheeler.  He was a Sharpshooter and was wounded at least once.  He was discharged at Starkville, MS, in May 1865.  Around 1880, George moved his family to Lamar County, Alabama, just north of Vernon.  He was a farmer and a practical veterinarian.

SANDERS, James J. - b. 1807 in North Carolina. Moved to southwest Fayette County, Alabama, sometime between 1837 and 1839, where he eventually settled (homesteaded) 640 acres of government land.

SANDERS, John Tilman - b. 1835 in South Carolina.  Son of James J. and Rosa Sanders.  He served in Co. B, 8th Alabama Cavalry, CSA.

SANDERS, Mary Susan Bankston - b. 1841. Wife of Albert Jackson Sanders.

SANDERS, Rosa Ann (Dowery?) - b. 1810 in South Carolina.  Wife of James J. Sanders.

SANDERS, Sarah Caroline Coats - b. 1836 in Greene County, South Carolina.  Wife of John Tilman Sanders.

SANDERS, Sarah Elizabeth - b. 1839 in Alabama. Daughter of James J. and Rosa Sanders.  Married Aaron Finley Sherrill.

SANDERS, Selina Emeline James - b. 1848 in Fayette County, Alabama.  Daughter of Marshall and Mary James, and wife of George Harrison Sanders.  She was one-fourth Indian; known as "Granny" Sanders in her later years.  She was an herb doctor of some renown. It was said that people came from miles around to get her herbal remedies.
