John W. Maddox family
John W. MADDOX family
John W. MADDOX (front row, far right) was born 23 Jul 1859 in AL; died 09 Apr 1937; buried at Oak Grove Methodist Church Cemetery, Fayette Co., AL.  His second wife, Mary Alice [--?--] (standing beside John), was born 17 Apr 1869 in AL; died 20 Apr 1947; buried at Oak Grove Methodist Cemetery.

Their seven children are shown above.  The original photograph was in the possession of James David ALDRIDGE of Ohio in 1999: "I will write the names exactly as they were passed to me by my Aunt Flora D. (ALDRIDGE) GODWIN.  It was and is common practice to add 'er' (example Alma is Almer, Ella is Eller).  As you research keep this in mind [...]  FR: Sisters, Almer (Alma) ALDRIDGE, Eller MARTIN, Minnie MARTIN, Pearl H. [MADDOX], Mother Mary Alice, Father, John [MADDOX].  BR: The girls are Jonnie BINGHAM and Diccie WRIGHT, the 2 men are Earl MARTIN and Rube MARTIN.  One of the two remaining boys is the baby of the family Goldman MADDOX.  My Grandmother appears to be in her teens in this picture and my Grandfather Mart is not included, so I would imagine this picture was taken around 1915."

UPDATE (08/11/2009) — Dicie and Johnnie were not married at the time of the 1920 census, so this photo might have been taken in the 1920s.  If so, the little boy in the front row may be my grandfather, Estle Aldridge MADDOX, and one of the men in the back may be Fred ALDRIDGE.  This is all speculation at this point, but due to the marriage dates, I would place this photo after 1920...
