LEIGH CEMETERY RESTORATION
and TRANSCRIPTION

          The Leigh Cemetery is located about one mile east of the intersection of Old Highway 20 and County Line Road (only traffic light in Leighton). It is on the north side of the road in a grove of trees. It is about one half acre in size.
          Two weeks prior to August 14, 1999 the weeds and poison oak were sprayed with herbicide. On workday the grass was mowed, fallen limbs removed and low hanging limbs and brush cut. Headstones were then washed and read.
          The founder of Leighton and several of his family members are buried in this cemetery. Some of the stones had to be read using the "shaving cream" method, especially number one and two. In the photographs of them you are actually reading the shaving cream. Otherwise, they can't be read. All stones were washed well with water after reading them.
          The numbered signs at each headstone correspond to the numbers on the layout diagram. There are some depressions in the ground on the southeast side of the cemetery that could be other unmarked graves.
