The pen sketch by Marion Piastre depicts a nostalgic memory view of Taylor's Store at Bon Secour.
Many such stores as this institution were community centers and in actuality served as community-meeting points, forms of social centers. In many cases in hard times the storekeepers in good faith and to the varied extent of their abilities acted as relief agents and assistant agencies during disasters and hard times. Many such store owners literally wrote off hundreds and even thousands of dollars in accounts, during the last great depression of the 1930's. Happy to further exemplify the good of human nature many accounts, long delinquent and having been forgotten by the storeowners have been paid off particularly during the World War II period and the affluent periods over the years.
This interesting reminiscent sketch was loaned by Mr. Jack Taylor, Sr. for this particular directory publication. There is presently a store at this location which was built by Mr. Taylor before his retirement from the grocery business and at this writing is known as The Country Market and thus is one of our older than 50 year service establishments in continuity of operation.
