Mrs Laura Gregory, of 424 North Main avenue, is the oldest living resident of Scranton who was born and spent her lifetime in this community. She was born January 22, 1827, the daughter of Mr and Mrs Benjamin Brown, on the Brown farm, where the Brisbin breaker now stands. She has seen the city grow from a few farm houses to its present population of 150,000. At ninety years she retains her faculties and is deeply interested in the semi-centennial.
The two other oldest living Scrantontonians are Mrs Catharine Washburn Courtright, aged eighty-seven, and Attorney Edward Merrifield, who celebrated his eighty-fourth birthday on July 30 last.
