One of the well known and successful young attorneys of Scranton is T Linus Hoban, who is a veteran of the World War. He was born in this city, 23 Sep 1893, and is the son of Thomas P and Jane F (Donnelly) Hoban.
Thomas P Hoban, attorney, is among the leaders of the bar of Lackawanna County, where he has been engaged in the practice of law for many years. He was born in Hawley, PA, 1 Feb 1957. Mr Hoban received his education in the public schools and is a graduate of St John's College, NY. He is a brother of the late Rt Rev Michael J Hoban, bishop of the Scranton diocese.
T Linus Hoban spent his boyhood in Scranton and attended the parochial schools. In 1911 he was graduated from St Thomas College and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Holy Cross College two years later. He received his degree in law from the School of Law, University of Pennsylvania, in 1917, and was admitted to the bar of Lackawanna County in December of that year. On 12 may 1917 Mr Hoban volunteered for service in the World War and attended the first Officers Training School at Madison Barracks, NY, where he was commissioned as a second lieutenant. He was then transferred to Fort Oglethorpe, GA, where he was an instructor. He served as a first lieutenant with Company K, 311th Infantry, 78th Division, and was later made battalion supply officer of the Third Battalion. He served in the St Mihiel offensive, 12-16 Sep, the Meuse-Argonne offensive, being severely gassed during the latter engagement. He was discharged from service 26 May 1919, and returned to Scranton, where he became associated in the practice of law with his father. Mr Hoban served as assistant city solicitor for four years under Mayor John Durkin and on 28 Jan 1927 was elected city chairman of the Democratic party. He has offices in the Connell Building.
Mr Hoban is a Democrat, a member of St Peter's Catholic Church, and belongs to the Knights of Columbus, 4th degree, Elks Lodge, Scranton Club, American Legion, Army and Navy Club of New York, La Societe des 40 Hommes et 8 Chevaux, Delta Chi fraternity, and Chamber of Commerce. In December, 1919, Mr Hoban was commissioned in the 109th Infantry of the Pennsylvania National Guard and holds the rank of captain and adjutant of that military organization. He is identified with the Lackawanna County Bar Association and is a representative member of the community in which he has spent his entire life.
