Rev Andrew Dlugos

Rev Andrew Dlugos, pastor of the Slovak Catholic Church of St Michael's at Jessup, is well known among the influential citizens of Lackawanna County. He has been located here as pastor since 1926.

The church at Jessup was founded about 20 years ago with Rev John Stas as pastor. He was succeeded by Rev Joseph Matiecka, who is now deceased. The next pastor of this rapidly growing congregation was Rev Joseph Dulik, who was followed by Rev John Karnis, Rev John Porubsky, and Rev Francis Sternad.

The new building, which is a combination school and church, was erected in 1925 at a cost of $100,000 and the school now has an enrollment of 375 pupils. Seven sisters make up the faculty (Congregation of Sts Cyril and Methodius).

Plans are already underway for the erection of a large auditorium in connection with the other church property, which has a total valuation of approximately $200,000. In the near future they intend to have a new church.
