Genealogy of Northeast Pennsylvania

Gordon's Gazetteer of the State of Pennsylvania

In 1832 Thomas F Gordon's A Gazetteer of the State of Pennsylvania was published in Philadelphia by T Belknap. Its an amazing compendium of Pennsylvania as it existed in the early 1800s, including geography, topography, natural resources, early industries, political entities and so forth, and is interesting to read not only for its own sake but for the clues that it can give you as to prior names of localities, etc.

A gazetteer is a geographic dictionary and I'm trying to be accurate in transcribing those entries which concerned northeast PA. I've left spelling and abbreviations, as well as nineteenth century capitalization, which, particularly concerning proper names, differed from ours, as its found in the original.
