As head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Diocese in the US with headquarters in Philadelphia, has jurisdiction over 11 churches and 1 convent in the Scranton Roman Catholic Diocese. Native of Galicia, Western Ukraine; ordained 9 Jan 1909 in Peremysil, Galicia; named bishop 20 May 1924 & consecrated 15 Jun 1924 in Rome. The Archbishop of Newark has tentatively set 17 Jun for the consecration of Msgr Justin J McCarthy as Auxilliary Bishop. Post has been vacant since the appointment of Bishop James A McNulty to head the Paterson diocese last spring. Native of Sayre, moved to Elizabeth NJ as an infant. Seton Hall Preparatory School; graduated Seton Hall College in 1923; North American College in Rome. Ordained 16 Apr 1927 in Cathedral of St John Lateran, Rome.
