Lake is located on the south side of the Alaska Peninsula next to the
body of water of the same name, 265 miles southwest of Kodiak and 565
air miles southwest of Anchorage. It lies at approximately 56░ 14' N
Latitude, 158░ 47' W Longitude (Sec. 25, T045S, R061W, Seward Meridian).
The community is located in the Aleutian Islands Recording District. The
area encompasses 18 sq. miles of land and 4 sq. miles of water.
The present population traces its roots
to Aleuts from the west near Illnik and the old village of Kanatag near
Becharof Lake. The village was established in the 1950s when the
original school was built. It has developed as a fishing village.
