Albert
Lee Compton was born at Scio, Oregon, on March 8, 1866. Julia Beele Thayer
was born in New Red Wing, Minnesota on June 6, 1863 and went to Oregon
with her parents where she took teacher training. She met and married
Albert on December 1, 1886. They both taught school in Oregon and a son,
Frank, and two daughters, Arzalea and Oda, were born
there. Then they moved to Washington, by covered wagon, in 1889. They
lived several places in Washington and three daughters, Eula, Mareda,
Louise, and one son, Linn, were born in Washington.
They moved from Downs, Washington, by train to Wetaskiwin in April, 1912,
where they lived in town a little while, then moved to a farm north of
Wetaskiwin, which they rented.
In 1919, they moved to the land just east of where Eugene Stebner now
lives. In 1922, they moved to the Cross place, across from where Otto
Albers now (1973) lives. From there, the Comptons moved west and bought
a C.P.R. (Canadian Pacific Railroad) quarter where they lived until Linn
married. They lived in Ben Dickau's until Mr. Compton died on October
24, 1933. Mrs. Compton stayed a while at Frank's, then moved to Ponoka.
She lived in Ponoka several years then went to Vancouver, British Columbia,
where she lived with Mareda until her death on April 24, 1946. Mr. and
Mrs. Compton are both buried in the Forest Home Cemetery.
Frank - The eldest
child, was married to Zora BOGART on February 14, 1918. They lived
in Wetaskiwin for a while then went to Beatrice, Nebraska, where
their first child, Loucille, was born. They came back to Ponoka
in 1923 and stayed with Frank's parents on the Cross place for a
while. They lived on S.W. 16-44-26-W4 in the early 1930's. They
had four children: Loucille, Don, Leslie and Marilyn. Loucille
attended school in Reo, and later married Arthur Carlson. They had
two girls, and moved to Wetaskiwin. Betty Ann married Don
Hay and moved to Wetaskiwin. They have two sons. Carolyn
married Keith Rossiter. They had 2 girls and they moved to a farm
on the outskirts of Wetaskiwin, Alberta. Don married Joan
Crosswell. They had a son and a daughter, and moved to Drayton Valley,
Alberta. Leslie married Agnes Parson. They had two sons and
two daughters, and moved to Sunnybrook. Marilyn married Walter
Markwart. They moved to Calgary and had 2 sons. |
Oda - The third
child became Mrs. Oda Beck. |
Eula - The fourth
child, married Mr. Ben Dickau |
Linn
- The fifth child, married Mamie Tulokas and lived on the C.P.R.
quarter his parents bought. They moved to Langley, British Columbia,
Canada and have two (2) sons - Walter is married and lives
at Langley, British Columbia and Norman iIs married and lives at
North Surrey, British Columbia. |
Mareda,
the sixth child, married George Rook, but they later divorced. She
then married Ricky Humphreys. They lived in Vancouver until she
died in 1962. They had a son and two daughters. Clarence
died in the Navy. Julia,
married, and moved to British Columbia. Hazel married and
moved to British Columbia |
Louise
- The seventh child married Leroy Clark and they lived in Granite
Falls, Washington where Leroy passed away in 1962. They had one
son and one daughter. Louise later moved to Everett, Washington
