Welcome to the Peace Gen Web

This is a part of the Alberta Gen Web and the Canadian Gen Web created to assist genealogists on the Internet, with their search for family information.

  • The Peace Gen Web covers the area of the MD of Peace #135 in northwestern Alberta.
  •

    History

This area was part of the great wilderness of the Peace country, populated by Aboriginal, trappers and traders, and the animals they all sought.

Homesteaders, from all areas of Europe, America and Canada, began arriving about 1910, grasping the opportunity to begin a new life.

The MD of Peace #135 was formed in 1916 and incorporated January 2, 1917, with it's office in West Peace River, moving to the Bear Lake settlement in 1920, and on to it's present location of Berwyn about 1922. The rural population is 1,561.

MD is the abbreviation of Municipal District, similar to a rural municipality or county.
