Jeff Bcks Mo July 25th/64

I now set down to write you a few lines to let you know that I am still at Jeff Bcks and alive and well but don't expect to stay here long for I am going to get transferred to my own state. They are agoing to send me to devenport. I am going away tomorrow so the docter says as soon as I get there I can go home pretty quick and cheap from there. I have not herd from you for about three weeks now. Perhaps you are expecting me home. I did expect to go home before this time and put my naim in for a furlough but they said that they was going to send me to my own state and that I could get a furlough from there. My leg has got well except is a little weak in the knee. I threw my crutches aside long ago. I got a letter from Joel the other day. He sais that Washy was home on furlough. If Welly has ben with the regt all the time I expect he has had a pretty hard time for I think by what I have herd the Regt was on that expedition through Miss with Smith.

I have no news to write so will close.
V.W. Sargent
