HARTSVILLE - page 339
"Is located on the west border of the county, south of the centre, and is bounded north by Hornellsville, east by Canisteo, south by Greenwood and west by Allegany county. This town was formed from Hornellsville, February 7, 1844. The valley of Bennett's creek extends along the east border, and Purdy creek flows east through the north part. The steep hillsides bordering these streams are from four to six hundred feet high."
