This was an Orphanage for young ladies on the bank of the Cohocton River in Bath on the left side of the Bath-Cameron Road. Mr Davenport left a legacy to the Bath Hospital when he died and the new Hospital was built in 1960 and named for him.

note:
Bath Mar 18 /68
Dear Doctor
The little girl you got into our orphan Asylum Mary AnnWhetmath Mar 1 /66 died last evening at 6:06 and will be interred
tomorrow - her complaint was inflamation of the bladder and Bowels, was sick but a few days - had the best attention to
the last moment. I don't know any thing more could be done than was done. She was a favorite with all who knew her and
during her sickness she lacked no attention. She was at our house frequently and all our family were her friend and mourn
her loss.-- it is first death in our Institution. pleas inform her friends.
yours, Ira Davenport
If anyone is related to the Whetmath family - please contact: Jim Elbrecht [[email protected]]- who kindly shared this with us. (10/02/03)
