"WHAT OLD TOMB STONES TELL US"
Early Residents of This Village Recalled by Inscriptions on Tomb Stones
in Old Cemetery.
The Village Improvement Society has prepared the following list of names
and dates on the stones in the Old Cemetery , beliving that many readers
of the villiage papers, both in and out of town, may be interested therein.
Among them are some of more than passing interest as that of the daughter
of the founder of this villiage; the first pastor of the Presbyterian Church,
and others here given:

In memory of Christian Williamson, daughter of Charles and ---- Williamson
Born in Scotland 11th Nov. 1789 Died at Bath 2d Sept. 1795.

Sacred to the Memory of the Rev. John Niles Pastor of the first Presbyterian
church of this villiage who departed this life on the Lords' day morning
Sept. 13th in year of our Lord 1812, et. 36 yrs.

In memory of Joseph Inslee for many years an Elder and Deacon in the Presbyterian
church who died April 3d 1813 aged 75 years.

Eleanor, wife of Gen'l Geo. McClure who departed this life June 16th 187
ae. 40 yrs.

Emminent for domestic virtues, beneficence and piety. In her faith example
and counsel, she being dead yet speaketh.

In memory of The profound Schollar and Humble Christian Mr. Eli Eddy, classical
instructor 1783 - 1832.

The president of the Village Improvement Society will be pleased to receive
assistance in restoring these stones from descendants or other relatives
of those buried in this cemetery. It is hoped that this place may be converted
from disgrace and an eyesore, to a suitable resting place for the dead.
