Richard Tarr born around 1646 in the Western part of England, South of the Bristol Channel; died on 13 June 1732 at Rockport, Massachusetts. He died at the age of "86. He is buried in the Old Burying Grounds on Beach Street, Rockport, Essex, Massachusetts. The town of Rockport erected a granite monument at his grave in the Old Cemetery to perpetuate his memory. The marble tablet is hard to read, but it still stands on the old burying grounds overlooking the bay.Richard Tarr settled first in Saco, Me. By occupation: (Woodsman). Resided at Blue Point (Scarborough), Maine prior to Philip's War; Saco, Maine
early 1680s to 1688-9; Marblehead, Massachusetts around 1680? also in 1688-9??; He later moved to Rockport, Essex, Massachusetts where he lived 1689 to 1732. He married around 1684 at Saco, Maine to Elizabeth Dicer, daughter of William Dicer and Elizabeth Austin.

Richard Tarr lived in Rockport and the spot that he picked to homestead is very beautiful and I can understand why he settled there. This is a great place to visit if
you get a chance. John Tarr's homes is still standing and is located next to the Old Cemetery. Richard's home site is just a short walk from the Old Cemetery at 113 Main Street,
however, the house was torn down and rebuilt at a later date.

Old Burying Grounds: From I-95 follow route 128 and then 127 east to Rockport, Essex, Massachusetts.
As you enter Rockport on route 127 you will see Tarr's Lane and then Poole's Lane to the
left. At the next five-way intersection take Broadway Street to Rockport Center. Go straight to the Tee intersection at Main Street. Turn left onto Main St. and follow Main St. north to Beach St. Bear to the right onto Beach St. past the John Tarr Store on the right. The Old Burying ground is
on the left across the road from the beach just past the store.

ELIZABETH DICER, daughter of William and Elizabeth (Austin) Dicer of Salem, Massachusetts.
She was born on 2 Jul. 1667 and died in 17--.
William Dicer, from Salem, was in Saco in Jun. 1680, then ordered to remove the old man and his
family he brot from Salem or secure the town; bot farm on west side of river in 1686. Constable 1688.
Lists 33, 249. removed to Boston and died there 11 Dec. 1707 nigh 80. [Noyes, Libby, Davis

     John Tarr(Mariner); Biddleford 1730, Boston 1734; born supposed 1686 at Saco, Maine s/o Richard Tarr. John Tarr marriage intent 8 Apr. 1714; married 29 Jul. 1714, Elizabeth Haines, b. 13 Aug. 1698
at Marblehead, daughter of Francis and Elizabeth (Hooper) Haines of Falmouth 1689/Marblehead, Essex, Massachusetts. Her father deeded them 50 acres at Purpoodock in 1716;
John2 was the master of sloop -Mary- 1711. They had one daughter

William2 Tarr, born around 1688 at Saco, Maine; s/o Richard Tarr. He married 21 December 1708 Elizabeth Felt daughter of Moses Felt and Lydia Mains, called of 'Lynn alias Boston' in the Gloucester
records. They had several children:

Moses Felt, lived at 'Casco Bay' meaning either Falmouth or North Yarmouth, Maine from about
1658 until Philip's War, and 7 years between the wars. He was of Rumney Marsh as late as 1733, later
in the adjacent Lynn or Boston. His wife was a daughter of John Mains. [

     Elizabeth2 Tarr, born 10 January 1691, died before her father in 1732, her children were
in his will; married 9 Feb. 1714/15, Ebenezer Davis. They had children:

  Richard2 Tarr, Jr., born 26 Aug. 1695; marriage intent 1721-2, Grace Hodgkins
daughter of Chritopher and Tabitha(Hayword) Hodgkins. They had a daughter. Grace married 2nd 10 Nov. 1726 Joshua Cromwell after Richard2 Tarr's murder by Indians at Fox Harbor 22 June 1724.

    (Sebascodegan) in 1737 and vacated in 1742. Joshua was again listed as a Kennebec settler that
    petitioned for a separate county in 1752. ]

     Joseph2 Tarr, born 16 Jan 1697/98; married 28 Jul. 1719, Sarah Sargentb 3 Mar 1699-70d/o Nathaniel & Sarah (Harvey) Sargent. Joseph2 Tarr and family moved to Parker's Island, Georgetown, Maine around 1726. His
    descendants are still found in Georgetown and in Pittston on the Kennebec River. Joseph2's
    father deeded him 1729-30 100 acres at Saco, granted by Bonython to Arthur Churchwell (Churchill)].

    In 1743 Benjamin2 Tarr and John and Ebenezer Pool secured a grant at what was called
    the "Whirlpool" in today's old harbor for a wharf. Said to have been 72 by 20 feet and built of timber
    and stone, it was the first Sandy Bay pier. Each of the owners was allotted space for storage purposes.
