Per Mark S. Nyenhuis, who also sent us the photos here, Nyenhuis Cemetery is now a plot in the Greenwood Cemetery that was at one time owned as a separate property by the Nyenhuis family. It has since been deeded to the Greenwood cemetery in exchange for perpetual care.
According to Mark, the story of how and why the Nyenhuis cemetery came to be is somewhat up to speculation but the story that is told in the Nyenhuis family is that much of what is now Greenwood was owned by the father of Joseph Nyenhuis.
At the time of the WPA Cemetery surveys
in the late 1930's, the following listings appeared as being buried at
Nyenhuis.
There were other Nyenhuis surname
burials listed as buried in Greenwood rather than Nyenhuis. If you
do not find listed here a party who was supposed to be buried at Nyenhuis,
please check the Greenwood records.
