The 1st Tanana Chief's Conference held 7/5/1915
in Fairbanks to Discuss Native Land Rights

Rev. Guy Madara addressed this conference and said that the chiefs present respresentd the Indians from Salchaket, down the Tanana River, to Ft. Gibbons, probaby 1200 to 1500 Indians.

This photo is of Mapoy (Martha) McConahay (left)
wife of Arthur "Long Shorty" McConahay. McConahay came
to Alaska in 1886 and over the years, he was an ACC agent at Susitna
Station, Knik and  Tyonek. Arthur and Mapoy had 4 children:
Mary b. 1893, James b. 1895, Martha b. 1897 and Katie born 1899.
 
To Martha's right is Annie Hicks, the wife
of Harry Hicks (of Hicks Creek).
She is holding their daughter Minnie Hicks.
