Animal Markings 1828-1844

This document maintained by the Town of Orleans recorded marks, similar to brands, for sheep and horn cattle in the Town of Orleans. Its unclear if this was an 'official' document or was for the convenience of residents as a means of returning strays to their proper owner. Although a specific time frame was not recorded in the document, dated entries clearly indicate that it covered the period 1828 - 1844.

A total 85 individuals recorded their marks in the book. Entries generally included the individual's name, type of marks for both sheep and horn cattle, and date of entry.
