Cemeteries By County
Jefferson, Lewis, and Oswego Counties, New York
“Show me the manner in which a nation or community cares for
its dead. I will measure exactly the sympathies of its people, their
respect for the laws of the land, and their loyalty to high ideals.”
Attributed to WILLIAM E. GLADSTONE
“Successful Cemetery Advertising,” The American Cemetery, March
1938, p. 13
This section is slowly expanding to include those counties adjacent to Jefferson County. As time permits, cemeteries in Lewis, St. Lawrence, and Oswego Counties will be included. Over 200 cemeteries are estimated to be in Jefferson County alone. They range in size from small family burial grounds with one or two burials to large active cemeteries with over 17,000 burials. Our intent is to photographically document each cemetery as a means of preserving them.
With the exception of the Prisoner of War Cemetery (POW), cemeteries located on Fort Drum are listed under the town in which they were located prior to the 1941 expansion. Only those cemeteries we have visited are included on the following list.
With few exceptions, the primary name is based on the U. S. Board on Geographic Names (BGN) database. This is done so that the cemetery can be easily found on maps.
